Southampton 0-1 Burnley

Southampton fell to a 1-0 defeat as Sam Vokes scored the only goal of the game for visitors Burnley.

Saints have now drawn a blank in front of goal at St Mary's in nine of their last l2 Premier League games.

Mauricio Pellegrino's reaction: “It’s a really painful game because I think we were much better than them in all different aspects of the game – defensively, on set plays and with the ball.

“We had a number of possibilities to convert chances, but that was the only aspect in which they were better than us – they were clinical in converting the chance that they had.

“This is part of football. We have to live with this and learn for the future.

“It’s part of our job and our life. Sometimes you can be better than the opponent but still lose, like today.”
